Shawn Bush (he/him/his) is a lens-based artist whose work examines how photography mediates power, myth, and social structure in the United States. Raised in Detroit, MI, his practice reflects on how industrial decline, racism, and civic identity shape collective imagination and the built environment. Working across analog, digital, and time-based processes, Bush investigates how visual systems sustain political, economic, and environmental hierarchies while envisioning more equitable and sustainable futures.
Bush earned his MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and BA from Columbia College Chicago. He is a 2025 Light Work Artist in Residence, recipient of the 2024 Charta Photobook Award, and 2023 Kodak Visionary Project Award, among others. His forthcoming monograph "Angle of Draw" will be published by Yogurt Editions in 2026. Bush lives in Casper, Wyoming, where he is a tenured Instructor of Photography at Casper College and founder of Dais Books.
